Nothing makes your car look better than a good wash. Washing your own car will save you money. It also allows you to give extra attention to especially dirty areas of your vehicle. Provided you use the right technique and the right tools, washing your car is easy to do at home.
Here are easy-to-follow steps that would help you clean your car properly.
Step 1: Park the car out of direct sunlight.
This prevents premature drying which can leave splotches on the paint. Check that all windows are closed and pull the windshield wipers away from the windshield, away from the glass.
Step 2: Set everything you will need near the car. This includes cleaning material:
- Sponge
- Hose
- Bucket with a large supply of water
- Brush
- Car wash detergent
- Wash mitts
- Microfiber cloths or towels
Step 3: Hose off the car to loosen and soften the dirt.
Try to aim the jet of water downwards on all surfaces. Aiming upwards around windows may cause water to dribble into the car if there are flaws in the rubber seals.
Step 4: Wash the wheels first.
Use a long, skinny wheel-brush for cleaning the openings of the wheels. Don’t forget to wash around the wheel nuts, as well as scrubbing the outside tires.
Step 5: Wash your car using a large wash mitt or sponge.
Soak it in the soapy water, and begin applying it to the car. wash it by sections, moving systematically from top to bottom in the following order: roof, then window supports and windows, then the top of the bonnet and upper panels, followed by the middle of the doors and the boot, the front bumper, lower panels, lower part of the doors, and finally the back bumper. *Do not use a brush on the car body, because this may leave little scratches.
Step 6: Rinse each section after you’ve washed it.
When rinsing sections, follow the same top-to-bottom pattern that you’ve used to wash the sections of your car. After one section is washed, rinse it with the hose before moving on. When you give your vehicle a final rinse, it is best to use a hose without a nozzle, so the water flows gently down over the whole car in a sheeting action.
Step 7: Dry the vehicle with fresh towels.
Fully wipe down all surfaces that you’ve washed, in order to prevent rust from building up. Use a large microfiber towel for scratch-free drying; much more absorbent, and they dry more quickly.
Step 9: Wax the car once it’s been dried.
Wax should be applied to a clean, dry car. Wax protects the paint from the sun so it doesn’t fade or deteriorate.
Step 10: Cleaning the interior.
First things first, remove any rubbish from your car, The Next step is vacuuming – try to get into every nook particularly underneath the seats. Then, spray the glass cleaner directly onto the paper towel, to wipe the windshield free of any dirt. Lastly, apply a water-repellent treatment to the windows to repel water from it and improve visibility.
Now that your car is sparkling clean, you would probably like to keep it that way!
